What to Expect Coming to Your Treatment

22/6/2020

Dear Patients!

I hope you have all kept healthy during this time.  I wanted to touch base with you to let you know that I am booking appointments.  I am taking patients on a part time basis days with limited morning appointments and mostly afternoon appointments.  I am able to see less patients per day as 10 minutes is left in between patients for cleaning and sanitizing. It might be a bit more challenging to get an appointment however less traffic in the office compared to other multi-disciplinary settings I hope will add to your feeling of safety and risk minimization.

To my patients that I have seen already, welcome back!  To those patients I have not yet seen I am looking forward to seeing you for Chiropractic treatment when you feel ready!

I am sending a COVID-19 screening questionnaire for you to print, review and sign once you book an appointment. Please note that you must answer no to all questions in order to keep an appointment with me.

ARRIVING AT THE OFFICE:

Please bring a mask with you.  If you do not have a mask, I will provide you with one.
When you arrive, please call me from your car.  We will go over your health history first.  Once we finish, please come to the door and I will open it for you and close it for you as well. If you have a mask, please put it on before you arrive.

I will check your temperature with a forehead thermometer and provide you hand sanitizer or you may wash your hands in the bathroom.  If you can plan around going to the bathroom before you arrive, it would be helpful to minimize your risk.

I will process payment before we start and email you a receipt.  Debit (tap preference), e-transfer, and cash will be accepted.  As per before, no credit card payments at this time.

If you have your phone, wallet, keys or purse you can place them on a bench in the treatment room that I can sanitize easily between patients.  Please limit the amount of items you bring inside if possible.  If you are wearing sandals, consider bringing a pair of socks to wear inside.

After treatment, I will sanitize your hands again and I will open the door for you to reduce your need to touch more items.

CLEANING AND PPE:

I will be wearing a mask and gloves during treatment although depending if taping or acupuncture treatment is required, I might need to take the gloves off.  I will put on a fresh pair if needed to resume treatment.

Please let me know if you prefer me to wear a fresh gown while treatment or if you would like to wear one on top of your clothes.

Thank you for your accommodation during this time.  I am following directive from Public Health as well as my regulatory college to make sure cleaning, sanitizing, and maximum protection protocols are in place for both of our safety and still providing high quality care for you.  If there is something more that I can do to make you comfortable and feel safe, please let me know.

Please note that high touch and soft surfaces like waiting room chairs, towels, heating pad, and magazines have been removed.

Please reach out if you'd like to book an appointment.  Safety is my first priority!  I look forward to seeing you and working through this new "normal."

Sincerely,

Dr. Steph

COVID-19 Clinic Update

19/3/2020

Dear valued patients,

The health and safety of my patients and my family is my top priority. This is a critical moment across Ontario and things are unfolding at a rapid rate as it relates to the COVID-19 virus.

After careful consideration and a social responsibility to implement social distancing policies based on the guidance of public health authorities within Canada, I have made the difficult decision to close my clinic effective March 16, 2020. I  will reopen on Thursday, April 2nd, 2020.

What does this mean for my patients?
  • I am in the process of contacting all of those that have scheduled appointments  with me in the next few weeks. I highly recommend rebooking your appointment now, as there will be an increased number of patients wanting to get in once I am open again.
  • Please contact me drsteph@drstephanisko.com or (647) 287-6683 to discuss any emergency injuries.

The information around COVID-19 changes daily. And all we can do is continue to monitor the situation and hope that the actions we are taking help Ontario to flatten the curve.

I'd like to personally thank you for your continued support  as we navigate this difficult and exceptional situation, which is affecting all our lives in a way we never thought possible.

Thank you,

 Dr. Steph

Lift Light to Shovel Right

Snow Shovelling

Winter weather can pack a punch and, with the season’s heavy snowfalls, injuries often result. Improper snow shovelling is often to blame.

But shovelling out after a storm doesn’t have to leave you stiff and sore. With a little know-how, you can clear your driveway without the all-too-common back, neck and shoulder pain cramping your style. Here’s how:

Before You Start
  • Drink plenty of water. Dehydration is just as big an issue in the winter months as it is in the summer.
  • Dress in several layers so you can remove a layer as you get warm.
  • Wear proper footwear. Shoes and boots with solid treads on the soles can help to minimize the risk of slips and falls.
  • Pick the right shovel. Use a lightweight, non-stick, push-style shovel. A smaller blade will require you to lift less snow, putting less strain on your body. An ergonomically correct model (curved handle) will help prevent injury and fatigue. Also, if you spray the blade with a silicone-based lubricant, the snow will slide off more easily.
  • Before beginning any snow removal, warm up for five to 10 minutes to get your joints moving and increase blood circulation. A brisk walk will do it.

All Set to Go PUSH, DON’T THROW.
Push the snow to one side and avoid throwing it. If you must throw it, avoid twisting and turning — position yourself to throw straight at the snow pile.

BEND YOUR KNEES.
Use your knees, leg and arm muscles to do the pushing and lifting while keeping your back straight.

WATCH FOR ICE.
Be careful on icy walkways and slippery surfaces. Intermittent thaws and subsequent freezing can lead to ice building up underfoot, resulting in nasty slips and falls. Throw down some salt or sand to ensure you have a good footing.

Once you’ve mastered safe snow shovelling techniques, you’ll be free to have fun and stay fit all winter.

If you do experience pain, consult Dr. Steph to assess your specific needs and identify a course of action that’s right for you.
